Since our inception in 2000, The Hudson Valley Asthma Coalition has been improving the quality of life for children with asthma throughout the seven county region of New York. The association was formed in order to address the growing rate of school absenteeism in hopes of allowing children in the Hudson Valley to enjoy symptom-free days and fully participate in their childhoods.

A division of the American Lung Association of New York State, our mission is to reduce the burden of asthma, including emergency room visits and school absenteeism, by giving community members the knowledge and resources they need to create asthma-friendly home, school, and work environments throughout the region. Through strategic community collaborations, the coalition offers a number of free, age-appropriate programs that educate and inform families, health care providers, school personnel, and other groups. These informational sessions, including conferences, workshops, and professional lectures, alert the greater Hudson Valley community to the dangers of environmental triggers in order to reduce exposure for asthma sufferers and improve asthma care and treatment.

The Hudson Valley Asthma Coalition is headquartered in White Plains, NY, and is funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health. The coalition serves Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties, and is comprised of a number of medical professionals, teachers, community partners, and volunteers “Working Together to Control Asthma”.
